Twitter Offers Ad-Free Timelines to ‘High Value’ Users

Twitter has become one of the most popular social networks in the world, with 320 million people accessing it each month.

The company is always looking for ways to improve user experience on the site, which is why they have begun experimenting with an ad-free version, which will be available to users who are deemed ‘high value.’

Twitter will be offering this VIP treatment to high profile accounts, such as celebrities and other influential figures.

They will also grant the ad-free experience to those who meet their set criteria, which will include the volume, reach and impressions of tweets that the user posts.

The people that Twitter considers ‘high value’ will see a drastically reduced number of ads on the platform and in some cases, no ads at all.

When asked about the recent update, a Twitter spokesperson said; “We’re constantly looking at constraints and adjustments to optimize which ads are shown and how often.”

Adverts are the main form of revenue for Twitter, so it is surprising that they have removed these from some timelines.

However, it is essential that they keep these ‘high value’ users engaged with the platform if they want to provide entertainment and attract new users to the site.

It is unclear whether the ad-free Twitter will be offered to other users at a later date or whether it will be kept as an exclusive service to ‘high value’ users.  Many apps offer the chance to block ads for a subscription fee, which may be something that Twitter looks into in the future.
