Periscope Introduces Live Streaming On Twitter Timelines

For those who aren’t familiar, Periscope is a live streaming app which is owned by Twitter.  It can be accessed through iOS and Android devices and has more than 10 million users throughout the world.

On Tuesday, Twitter introduced a new feature to its site which allows users to watch live stream content from Periscope while using the social media site.

Before now, users could only post links to Periscope videos and if they wanted to view the content, they would need to navigate away from Twitter to the Periscope app.

These videos will now play automatically on Twitter timelines and users can expand the screen by clicking on the video. If you want to broadcast a video on Periscope, you will still need to do this via the app as you can’t upload them directly to Twitter.

In a recent statement, Periscope said; “For broadcasters, this means you can reach the massive Twitter audience. And for everyone on Twitter, there’s now a richer experience in your home timeline, search results, and on anyone’s profile who’s shared a Periscope.”

The company’s latest move has received criticism from both users and industry experts. They believe that Periscope has formed a special community, which wouldn’t be the same if users are able to watch videos without actually being on the app.

At the moment, the feature is only available to those accessing the Twitter from iOS devices. It is thought that it will be released to Android in the next few months which means that these users won’t have too long to wait.
