FACEBOOK TESTS ADS IN MARKETPLACE

Over the past couple of years, you may have noticed more and more ads appearing on Facebook. They don’t just appear on your Newsfeed anymore either, but can now be placed on the right column, in Instant Articles or even in Messenger!

This week, the company announced that they were rolling out ads for Facebook Marketplace.

Marketplace was launched in 2016 as a way for users to sell things locally on the platform, be it clothes, toys or beauty products.

On its business page, Facebook said: “When you create an ad, you can choose Marketplace as an ad placement. Ads in Marketplace appear when someone browses Marketplace in the Facebook app on their phone.”

“When you create your ad, choose the Reach, Traffic, Conversions, Catalogue sales or Video views objectives to have an ad appear in Marketplace. When someone taps on your ad, they’ll be sent to the destination you chose when you created the ad.”

They have also promised that ads will show in the Newsfeed if it “isn’t currently possible for an ad to show only in Marketplace.”

Like other types of Facebook ads, they must comply with the advertising policies. These include, for example, not promoting discriminatory, misleading or sexually explicit content.

Each ad is reviewed to make sure the ad meets the requirements. This means if you want to advertise on Marketplace, you will need to make sure you choose the right images, text, targeting and positioning.

The content on your landing page also needs to be fully functional and relate to the services and products your ad is offering, otherwise it may be disapproved.

With ads making up most of Facebook’s revenue, it’s no surprise they are introducing even more ways to advertise on the platform.
